Help us raise the roof!
to shelter park volunteers, scientists, and trail crew
The
National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation and Upper Peninsula Builders
Association are going to build a bunkhouse so that Isle Royale National
Park volunteers, scientists, and trail crews can get out of the
1930s-era temporary Civilian Conservation Corps shelters and into
something sturdier in Windigo. We want to take care of the people who
care for the park, and the park has been waiting for support for this
project for almost ten years. Sleepless nights from inadequate
ventilation and heat, in a building ready to fall off its supports are
signs of the need for action.
Volunteers from across Michigan are ready to build this
bunkhouse, and they need materials and supplies in their hands by June
to finish the project on this remote island wilderness.
You can help: A simple donation of $10 will buy us four
2x4s or feed a volunteer for a day. Here’s a list of the materials we
need. [Download 1.75mb Excel file here.] If there is something you would like to donate or contribute to,
drop us a note at email@nplsf.org.
Donors of $2000 in materials or funds will be invited to visit the site via the Ranger III for the Windigo dedication ceremony in Fall 2008
